I had the opportunity to work at Oya's Childcare, location Obrecht. The staff are wonderful to work with and have a genuine heart for the children. However, I am deeply concerned about the management. Their focus is NOT on the children but on making the spaces look aesthetically pleasing for social media and generating money. They enroll too many new children to bring in revenue for opening new locations. As a result, existing locations are overcrowded, with 17 children per day in one group! Preschoolers: 17 per day (2 staff). Toddlers: 17 per day (3 staff). Babies: sometimes 13 or 14 per day in a space as small as a closet. There are more babies than cribs, so sometimes a baby has to sleep in the group area because there aren’t enough cribs available. Because 17 toddlers are crammed together in a small room with the staff (20 people in total), they get completely overwhelmed. They cry and overstimulate each other. With 17 children in one group, it is impossible to give one-on-one attention to a child who needs it. Moreover, these numbers exceed the legal guidelines in the Netherlands. Trainee staff (BBL students) are placed in charge of groups from day one due to staff shortages and are allowed to perform all tasks—taking temperatures, changing diapers, etc.—even though this is strictly prohibited. The manager tells staff who, by law, are not allowed to work alone on a group that, if inspection visits, they should claim this never happens. In other words, you are expected to lie to the inspectors to cover for them. We recently measured the CO2 levels in the rooms ourselves—400 ppm is considered healthy. In the baby room, it was 2300 ppm! Far above the healthy limit. This is because there is no ventilation system (they claim there is, but no one knows where it is or whether it works), and there are no windows in the baby room. If something concerning happens with a child and you approach the manager in fear for the child’s health, but the manager is in a meeting (which I can assure you was not an important one), you are asked to leave and come back later when she is done. Even if a child is burning up with fever, experiencing palpitations, and struggling to breathe, a conversation with the cleaning lady takes priority for the manager. Think three times before deciding to work here. And please think 300 times before deciding to send your child here. It all looks very nice on the outside, but nothing could be further from the truth.
Erg aardige en zorgzame leidsters. Altijd netjes en leuke en leerzame activiteiten. Fijne plek om kinderen in een sociale omgeving op te vangen.
Our twin daughters have been going to Oyas for a year (they’re 3.5 now) and we can’t be more thankful for the care and love they’ve received. Our experience has been superlative and we can but highlight, the amazing and loving personnel, the quality of the facilities, the food (all organic healthy meals) the activities (from yoga to music lessons), the psychological accompaniment and the learning program. We’ve seen our little ones thrive and go to Oyas with so much pleasure every morning for the last year. We can only recommend!
