Kind, friendly and caring staff. Our son loves them (been there 2 years now) which is the most significant and important thing. They’re informative and accommodating (vegetarian diet, breastfeeding, special circumstances, etc.). Love that they serve hot lunch meals of different varieties too, not just sandwiches every day.

Beware of the terms & conditions of Kinderopvang Schuylenburght. They are unlike any other nursery in Haarlem - we have just been charged €728 for cancelling our place 2 months BEFORE we were due to start … We signed up to the waiting list (were charged €30 for the pleasure) and a couple of weeks later were offered a place. We had to accept the place before we were offered a tour. After going on a tour we decided it wasn’t the place we wanted for our son for 8 hours a day - there was a very strong smell of cigarette smoke coming from the staff member caring for the children, the vertical class structure means babies are with 4 year olds in the same small room with 2 staff members - so minimal interaction between staff & children, the children seemed to be left to entertain themselves and the outside play area is small and very basic. There also seemed to be much fewer members of staff present than in other nurseries. It’s also the most expensive nursery we have toured in Haarlem, and yet the quality of care is far below its competitors. After we informed the manager of our decision to not accept the place, we were charged €728 - the equivalent of 2 weeks worth of nursery care. After contacting the owner to say this figure seems rather high, considering our child never attended the nursery, she replied saying we had agreed to these terms and conditions when we signed up. Just a heads up to other parents considering this nursery - read in detail the terms & conditions of what you are signing up to!
