Positive Beginnings, Difficult Ending: Our Child’s Experience I have very mixed feelings about this daycare. What we appreciated very much: • Hygiene in the group was at an adequate level. • Going outside to the park and surroundings from time to time. • Openness to listen to preferences and address problems when they arose. • Caring attitude from many of the teachers and staff. • Possibility of a half-day schedule. However, there were also aspects that led us to immediately terminate the contract, despite a lot of work done during the adaptation period (which was successful): • Lack of preventive measures when one child in the group showed special behavior (biting and grabbing/scratching faces of others), which was known by the daycare providers and management for some time already. Yes, they were busy trying to help that one child, but they didn’t succeed in creating a safe environment for the others. Other children were bitten and scratched significantly. We didn’t observe timely structured strategies in place, which affected the safety of the group. Our child suffered a lot from two incidents in a row and lost the feeling of safety, developed nightmares and sleeping problems, became very nervous about going inside and being around children all of a sudden, and couldn’t relax. This unnecessarily high stress later led to additional problems. Only after a few months away from the daycare, our child finally began to catch up again in a normal way. • Lack of synchronization and communication between staff about the child. It often seemed that not all caregivers were informed about the individual needs, preferences, or current state of our child, which made the care feel somewhat inconsistent. • Overstimulation during sleeping time (sometimes), not essential in our decision but still important. Loud noises in the corridor, doors opening and closing, the light being turned on in the sleeping area, and window curtains being open at times made it harder for the children to rest properly. In the end, while some things were done very well, other important aspects lacked appropriate attention. Because of the loss of a feeling of safety — which should be the number one task for a daycare provider — we had to stop bringing our child to this daycare. After some time, they did manage the situation much better as far as we know, but it was too late for our son. Also we lost trust. Returning would have only meant a lot of unnecessary stress for our one-year-old child.

Een fijne, goed georganiseerd opvang met veel oog voor de kinderen. Onze zoon was altijd blij om zijn leidsters te zien als we hem brachten. Zo laat je de kleine met een gerust hard achter.
